Simon Arizpe is an award winning paper engineer and illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY. His pop-up book work received the 2018 Meggendorfer Prize, the highest honor in pop-up book design, as well as the Award of Excellence from the Society of Illustrators and the Museum of Comic Book Art and Cartooning. The Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum and the Columbia University’s Rare Book Library have acquired his work for their permanent collections.
A graduate of Pratt Institute, Simon also worked as the senior paper engineer and illustrator at the New York Times best selling pop-up book studios of Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart for over nine years. Working on every aspect of pop-up book design: from concept and engineering to mass production and printing on over 32 books. Simon has also designed several holiday cards for the MoMA design store’s award winning stationary line. Some of Simon's other notable clients include: Blizzard Entertainment, Workman Publishing, Fantagraphics Books, Google, Disney, Paramount Pictures, DC Comics, IFC, and Hasbro Toys.
In addition to his design work, Simon is the professor of paper engineering and three dimensional design at The Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design in New York City.
